Club News : U11s Capture City Leauge
Posted by markmc on 2008/7/24 17:11:27 (4 reads)

The junior As are playing Carraroe this coming Friday at 8pm in Carraroe in the league.

The club would like to wish the best of luck to James Keane and Caomhin O'Cualain who are part of this years City and West Ted Webb Panel. The group stages of the Ted Web cup are taking place this weekend.

The Barna Under 11 football panel won the City League B Final in Pearse Stadium on last Friday night.

The final which was played in a strong breeze was played against Oughterard. Barna played against the wind in the first half and reached half time 1:5 to 1:2 behind.

However after a marvelous effort early in the second half the match was turned on it's head and Barna ran out convincing winners on a scoreline of 4:8 to 1:7.

This was the culmination of a great effort from each and every member of the panel.

Our thanks to the committee of Coiste Peil Cathair na Gaillimhe for their work in arranging the tournament and in particular affording the young panels the opportunity to play at Pearse Stadium for such a wonderful occasion.

Over 120 children from the parish aged from 7-14 enjoyed a great week of football coaching as Gaeilge under the Roinn Na Gaeltacht last week, with the great help of Collette Butler, Sarah Ann McDonagh, Maura Folan, and Tommy Burke all supervised under the watchfull eye of Paddy Friel.
The kids enjoyed excellent coaching sessions with glorious weather, our special thanks to Coiste Pairc Na Forbacha for having the pitches and dressing rooms in great condition with a special mention to Padraic Concannon for all his work and Padraic Conroy Galway coaching and games

Ladies Football

Barna Ladies traveled to Monivea on Wednesday evening to play Ballygar in the Championship semi-final. Barna started with the wind and opened brightly with some great sores from their forward line. At half time Barna ladies went in with a lead of 2-8 to 1-2 which didnt seem enough because of the very strong wind. In the opening ten minutes of the second half Ballygar went on the attack and reduced the deficit to 5 points. Barna playing with both skill and passion lifted the siege and scored 2-1 into the breeze which dashed the hopes of Ballygar. This was a great display from goalie to corner forward and Barna ladies now move on to play St. Michael's in the county final.
