The Barna U16s topped off their amazing year with yet another outstanding display against Corofin in Tuam Stadium. As the fans enjoyed an Indian Summer, they were also treated to some great football from the Barna players.
The Barna U16's have put in some fine performances this year, notably the City and County League final against Corofin and their second half come back against Salthill last week in the Championship semifinal. There is no doubting that the game today was the biggest game of their lives, and a big performances was necessary. The fact that Barna got great performances out of every players is reflected in the impressive score.
At this point in the season, it is appropriate that the club pay tribute to everyone involved with the U16 panel and the management team.
We look forward to seeing this fine group of players taking to the field again next year.

Annaghdown 0-12 Barna 1-6 (After Extra Time) Pearce Stadium 4 July, 2009
Seventy minutes is a long time in football. Much like the whether in the west of Ireland, things can change very dramatically in a very short period of time. On Saturday evening, much like the weather, Barna’s fortunes took a turn for the worst when it looked as though they were on the verge of a Happy 4th of July.
An early goal from Kieran Hanley in the first minute of the game was the perfect start for Barna team and the early momentum had a positive effect thought-out the pitch. The midfield of Brian Conneely and John Clifford controlled a lot of the football in the first half. Up front, Kieran Hanley and Rob Creedon were trying hard to twist their way towards the Annaghdown goal with good vision and running. In defence, Eoin McDonagh had another commanding game for Barna. Eoin’s ability to read the game, even in worsening whether conditions, was impressive to watch.
On Sunday, the Galway ladies captured the Connacht title from the hottly tipped Mayo and upset the form book with this impressive win.
The club would like to congratulate Gay O'Brien on this great achievement, which has come in his first year as manager of the Galway ladies and also team trainer Nigel Concannon. Gay has brought much success to the club's Mens and Ladies team over the years and now the county is benefiting from his ability.
Congratulation also to the the Barna players involved with the Galway panel. We wish Gay and the player the best of luck in the next round!
