The U14 girls recorded a great win in the Division 3 league Shield final over Leitir Moir on Monday evening . Played in perfect conditions , the two teams served up a great game of football. Barna started brightly but failed to take their chances in front of goal and Leitir Moir took advantage of this and registered their first point. This seemed to spur the girls on and they played some great football with Caoimhe Faherty and Ruth Keady controlling midfield and this allowed Ciara Lynagh to score 2-3 without reply. Leitir Moir in a rare attack in the first half scored a goal just on the stroke of half time leaving a half time score of 2-3 to 1-1 The girls from the west stepped up the pace and with Niamh Folan posing a threat and was rewarded with one goal and one point , the Barna girls dug deep and some great defending from Orna Cunningham and Sarah Cahill set up the next scores for Barna with Ciara scoring four more points to leave Barna with 2-7 , with only minutes left Leitir Moir kept pushing for goals and secured one but that was their final score as Caoimhe Slemon and Sadhbh Kelly Greally provided goal line clearences. The final score was Barna 2-7 Leitir Moir 3-2. Great credit goes to all the team with a great team performance for winning the trophy and this was backed up with great support from family and friends whom turned out in large numbers. A special word of thanks to Nigel Slemon, Furbo for supplying drinks after the match and to Donnelly's for providing the food.

The U14 girls were the only team playing this week and played their last League game against St Michaels at Barna Pitch. Playing with a strong breeze in the first half the Barna girls took full advantage scoring some fine scores through Ciara Lynagh, Caoimhe Faherty and Ruth Keady. The visitors goalkeeper produced some fine saves to prevent more than one goal being scored and this ensured a tough second half for the Barna Girls with a lead of 1-6 to no score. The second half saw the locals playing some of their best football in the league campaign with great blocking and teamwork to reduce St Michaels to scoring 1-3 in the second half. The Barna team kept the pressure on St Michaels defense and got their reward with a well taken goal from Kate Brady. The final score was 2-6 to barna and 1-3 to St Michaels. With other results pending in the league the girls will be through to the finals to be held this week-end, details will be posted on www.barnagaa.com
